Missouri Department of Insurance Releases Medical Malpractice Study

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Insurance today released a technical study on recent trends in the field of medical malpractice insurance, the findings of which attempt to provide a comprehensive depiction of the current industry in Missouri.  The study, compiled by an actuary retained by the Department, examines eighteen providers that wrote medical malpractice policies to doctors within the state of Missouri during a ten-year period from 1994 to 2003.  The policies written by these 18 providers comprised approximately 48 percent of the market share of premiums written in Missouri during the examination period.  In addition, the data examined in the study is based upon the cumulative experience among physicians in Missouri during this same interval of time.
