Accident, IED Claim Six Soldiers
WASHINGTON, Feb. 17, 2005 – Five soldiers from the Army's 1st Infantry Division died Feb. 15 when their Bradley fighting vehicle rolled into a canal during a combat patrol near the town of Khan Bani Saad, Iraq, military officials said today.
The soldiers were dead on arrival at a military treatment facility. Two other soldiers were injured in the incident. One is in serious condition and the other is in stable condition, officials noted.
Another soldier assigned to Task Force Baghdad died of wounds sustained in an improvised explosive device attack in western Baghdad on Jan. 24.
Names of the soldiers are being withheld until next of kin are notified.
Today, Task Force Baghdad troops discovered an IED near a western Baghdad elementary school. Members of the 4th Battalion, 31st Field Artillery Regiment, part of the 10th Mountain Division's 2nd "Commando" Brigade Combat Team, discovered the IED, and secured the area.
"Insurgents clearly put Iraqi children at extreme risk in order to intimidate citizens," said Task Force Baghdad's chief spokesman, Army Lt. Col. James Hutton. "The insurgent continues to prove that he cares nothing for the people of Iraq."
An explosive ordnance disposal team was called in and destroyed the device with a controlled detonation.
An Iraqi citizen was given a reward for alerting officials at the Joint Coordination Center about a roadside bomb planted in northeastern Mosul. Multinational forces from 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), defused the bomb.
Estate planning is a process to consider alternatives
Good estate planning is more than just a simple Will. Estate planning also typically minimizes potential taxes and fees, and sets up contingency planning to make sure your wishes regarding health care treatment are followed.
On the financial side, a good estate plan coordinates what would happen with your home, your investments, your business, your life insurance, your employee benefits (such as a 401K plan), and other property in the event you became disabled or if you die.
